Intermediate Freediving

The Course Description

As a Molchanovs Wave 2 Advanced Freediver you will extend your limits further in all disciplines (up to a depth of -30m), become more proficient in no fin techniques, and learn about the monofin technique which is fastest and most powerful way to navigate the underwater world. You will learn the history of freediving, how it all started, where, why and how we got where we are now. You will dive deeper into the physics of freediving, how it affects your body, learn about Dalton’s law and Henry’s law, and their relation to safe freediving. You will go into detail about depth and distance dives and understand the main differences and adaptations of our bodies. You will continue your breathing education and improve the Frenzel equalization maneuver with specialized drills, tips and guidance.

As you progress with your technique skillset and performance, you also work further on mental training introducing mindfulness techniques tailored to different contexts. You will also be introduced to injuries related to freediving in the middle ear, inner ear, sinuses, and lungs, learn how to prevent and treat them. Safety is also brought up to a new level with details on blackouts, decompression illness, learning how to avoid them, and mastering advanced rescue techniques.

Passing Requirements

Following requirements need to be meet to pass the Lap2 & Wave2 certification ➛

Prerequisites (for Wave 2 & Lap 2)

• Lap 1/Wave 1 certificate for Lap 2

• Wave 1 certificate for Wave 2

• OR completed crossover evaluation

Pool requirements (for Wave 2 & Lap 2)

• 2 min 30 sec static

• DYNB 50m

• DNF 35m

Open Water requirements (for Wave 2)

• CWTB & FIM 24-30m

• CNF 15m

• CWTB Buddying 10-15m

• Rescue from 15m

Introduction to pool Freediving Lap2

Students learn to train the specific elements of their body which contributes to larger pool performances. Topics include an introduction to the dolphin kick, mastering no fins, deconcentration technique, and much more. The course duration is typically 2 days. After completing Lap 2, you may take the depth component to upgrade to Wave 2.

Introduction to Freediving Wave2

In this intermediate course, you learn how to train your body for freediving and how to hold your breath for more than two and a half minutes. Topics include pre-dive optimization, improvement of Frenzel equalization, and introduction to the dolphin kick.

If you are taking the Wave 2 course, you master the skills and knowledge needed to freedive comfortably to a depth of 24-30 meters (79-99 feet) in open water, including using gravity on your deeper dives to go into free fall.

Two Pool Sessions

During this sessions you will learn:

•  Additional equipment

•  Improvements of techniques

•  Dynamic swimming (55M)

•  Buddying and rescue procedures (repetition)

•  Improving Dynamic No Fins (DNF) technique

•  Introduction to the monofin technique

After completing the two swimming pool sessions and clearing all the requirements, Students will receive a LAP 2 Certification. (Pool Freediving Certification)

Three Open Water Sessions

In the open water sessions, you can apply everything you have already learnt from the theory and the pool sessions and upgrade to a Wave 1 Certification (Open Water Certification)

We also document your progress with video footage and analyze it at the end of each open water session!

In open water you will learn:

• Improvement of equalization: Frenzel technique

•  Usage of lanyards

•  Free fall technique

•  Further safety and rescue: Rescue from 15+m

•  Introduction to Constant Weight No Fins (CNF) to 15m

• Application of air control (Grouper Call and Reverse Packing)

•  Improve your relaxation while focusing on your freediving technique

As a certified Molchanovs Wave 2 freediver you will be able to meet the following requirements:

•  2:30+ min Static Breath Hold (STA)

•  55+m Dynamic With Fins (DYN)

•  35+m Dynamic No Fins (DNF)

•  24 – 30m CWT and FIM in the open water

•  15m Constant Weight No Fins (CNF)

•  Free fall technique
